Today I came across this great advice and I couldn’t resist sharing it with all of you. Did you know that we can change the color and logo of the folder on Ubuntu Linux directly? No, it’s not a problem. Welcome Folder Color, a simple program that allows you to directly change the color or logo of a folder in Ubuntu and its derivatives such as Linux Mint. You can use it to decorate the appearance of your folders or to distinguish the folder(s) from other folders. He is currently working with the managers of Nautilus, Nemo and Caja File.

Set the folder color to Ubuntu

The developer Folder Color has created a PPA to facilitate the installation for us.

Setting the folder colour for the Nautilus

Nautilus is the default file manager on GNOME and Unity workstations.

If you are using the Nautilus file manager, run the following commands in sequence on the terminal to set the color of the folder

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: costales / folder color
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install folder color
$ nautilus -q

Set the folder color for Caja

Caja is the default file manager for Ubuntu MATE desktops. To set the color of the folder for Caja, launch it:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: costales/folder-color
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install folder-color-caja
$ caja -q

If the folder color in MATE DEs does not work, run the following commands to correct it.

ship ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/girepository-1.0/Caja-2.0.typelib /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/Caja-2.0.typelib
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/girepository-1.0/Caja-2.0.typelib /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/Caja-2.0.typelib
$ caja -q.

Set the folder color for Nemo

Nemo is the default file manager for Mint Cinnamon Linux desktops. If you are using Cinnamon DEs, run the following commands to set the color directory.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: costales/folder-color
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install folder-color-nemo
$ nemo -q

If this doesn’t work for some reason, do it:

$ Ship ln -s /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1 /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1.0$ Ship ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpython2.7.so.1 /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython2.7.so.1$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython2.7.so.1 /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython2.7.so.1$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython2.7.so.1.0$ nemo -q
