We’re constantly being told to back up our files… …but to be honest, few of us really do. There are several reasons for this, the first of which may not be entirely clear what needs to be justified. The next hurdle is how to do it, which tools to use and how much it will cost.
Then, of course, there’s the question of how to spend time configuring backups and scheduling updates so you don’t have to think about it. No wonder so many people aren’t affected. For reasons of user-friendliness, FBackup 8.7 is now available, which we recommend for backing up your most important data.
FBackup is completely free, and for many people it will do what they need.
The beauty of FBackup is that the whole configuration process is managed by the wizard. You first need to select where you want to store your data – e.g. B. on a local hard drive, a network drive or in the cloud (Google Drive and Dropbox are supported) – and then choose the folders you want to store.
The easiest way is to back up all your folders and files, but you can be a little more selective if you want to save space and speed up the process. FBackup can also be used to back up the settings of a wide range of popular applications, from browsers and office suites to games and music software. The package contains a number of plugins that can be used to secure various applications, and more plugins can be downloaded and installed for free from within the program.
If you want, you can filter certain types of files that may not be of interest to you, and in the last step you need to choose the type of backup you want to make (full and compressed backup or byte-byte mirroring), choose whether the backup should be password-protected, and then decide whether the backup task should be performed manually or according to an automated schedule.
You also have the possibility to gain some more practical experience by switching to the advanced mode.
New in FBackup 8.7 is the support for the backup plug-in for iTunes and Spotify, which allows you to instantly back up music, playlists and audio data to the cloud offline.
Upgrade to Backup4all 8.7 Professional and save $67
Although FBackup is an excellent free and powerful tool, it can be a bit more demanding. If your backup needs are larger, see Backup4all 8.7 Professional (a free trial is available for you). This cost-based application offers a number of benefits, including the ability to create incremental and differential backups so that future backup updates can be performed faster than just backing up everything that is discovered.
There is also support for more cloud services such as backup destinations and the ability to work with file versions. Password protection of the program interface prevents others from changing the backup settings and there is also protection in the form of up to 256-bit AES encryption. Backup tasks are more customizable in this version of the software, and you have access to additional options such as the ability to automatically run other programs before and after backup, command line support, and email notification.
